This is my first year. I live in Nevada county near blm land. We have been scouting in the evening the last week or so. Any suggestions on best time to scout, and what to look for. We see deer all year round, however as soon as the season starts they all seem to disappear.

I should add I know we should have started months ago. My husband has always been into fishing and hunting so I'm trying to get into it with him. He works like crazy so I have to do a lot of the leg work. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I, like you, hunt D3-5 in CA. Scout early in the morning and set up your game cam in places where the woods meet an open area. The blacktail in the area LOVE the dense brush and shooting lanes are tough to find, especially here in Lake Tahoe. Get out vey early in the AM and get out often. It's great that you are supporting your husbands hunts and I wish you both well!
