Weekend of catfishing on the yellowstone

I had a crew bring a bag of those onboard last week. I was impressed how well they worked. I'm not sure they worked better than crappie guts but they were a lot nicer to use. They only thing I didn't like was they were pretty soft and we had some bites that the cats stripped the shrimp off the hook which never happens with crappie guts. Do you do anything to toughen them up or use something to keep them on the hook better?

We use the shrimp that haven't been deveined or shelled. With a circle hook they seem to stay on really well
