I'm picking up a new Slik 624 tripod, but it seems that nobody runs Slik heads. Are Slik heads subpar? What head do you guys like? As much as I wish I was willing to drop $329 on an Outdoorsman, I'm looking for something under $200.

I prefer a pan head to a ball head, and I need something fair stout for 85mm scope and a DSLR with a 150-600mm zoom lens.

I've got a Schonfeld and Manfrotto 700rc2. I've been plenty happy with the function of both of them but the extra plates are a lot cheaper for the manfrotto. I'd check ebay for a manfrotto. Got mine for $40

I was unwilling to drop the money on an Outdoorsmans pan head for a while, now I have 2. I run either a Promaster 525 or Outdoorsmans compact medium tripod. I got the one head with the compact medium tripod and ended up with a second a while later.

Before I got them I used a Promaster 6160. It's a decent head for $50, plenty good enough to run while saving up the money for the Outdoorsmans!
