Hello,

My buddy and I are washington archery elk hunters but are looking at hunting idaho. We are thinking we will do rifle season for elk this year. I have spoke to the biologist about what areas to focus on. We are looking at unit 23. Just looking for any insight on what part of the unit to focus more on. Curious what their winter range vs summer range is.

I was also looking in this area for an archery hunt... I spoke with a biologist who said, they winter in the Salmon River brakes area.. The elevation is in the 3k range at the bottom of the brakes where there would be less snow... This is just what I heard... Also, if anyone has information on the French Creek area or Sams Throne area, let me know... I was thinking of going there this year archery from September 10th through the 20th... Also, I have not hunted elk in the September RUT, is this a good time roughly to go????

Thanks for the info. Yes that is a good time, but it also depends on weather and pressure though.

gjensen and squ@tch69 - how was your time in unit 23? See many elk or deer?

Do you have any advice to offer for rifle hunting in this unit?
