Default New Hunter: California Zone X2 (Modoc County) Premier Muley Unit

    Hello,
I'm a first time California hunter and drew one of only 17 random tags for the X2 deer unit in Northeastern California! I'm now planning for this October rifle hunt and have a number of questions. Given this is a premier mule deer unit and I want to maximize the odds of harvesting a buck. I'd love to chat with anybody who has experience in this unit.

Any general advice about where, within the unit, I should focus my time-North, south, east, west? I plan to carry out one scouting trip and have been told to hope for weather during the hunt so that deer are moving. Anybody confirm this? Any and all advice is welcome!

    Best,

Sorry I can't help with specific info, but I'd ask around over on http://www.jesseshunting.com/forum.php Lots of good CA knowledge over there...

Congrats on that tag and good luck!

I know that there use to be some big bucks in that country. We hunted ducks there in the '90's. Good luck
