Utah Senator Orrin G. Hatch, today laid out his opposition to the " federal land grab" that made Bears Ears a National Monument.

It's good to see by reading through the comments section on this piece that people see the snake oil element here.

"Can it really be a “federal land grab” if the land never, at any point in its history, belonged to the state of Utah?"

Question is what Trump will do. I guess that's the ever-looming wild card.

I remember hearing about the Bears Ears possible Monument status way back with the Escalante Monument times.

The push to conserve this area goes back to the 1930's. President Franklin Roosevelt was asked to set aside a vast swath of public land as a monument. IIRC, the original size was larger than what Obama conserved.
