Forgive the noob question. I'm scheduled to do a bear hunt on pvt land in NE New Mexico this August, but plan to go up a few days early to get acclimated to the altitude. While there, I'll be close enough to Carson National Forest to do some hunting. It looks like I can hunt for rabbits and feral hogs with my non resident license, but the NM state website isn't exactly clear. Does anyone have experience with this they can offer?

You can hunt rabbits with a hunting lic., & hogs anytime ...if you can find one. Heard of some pigs in NM, but down the rivers near TX.
Never saw many bunnies up that way,not like Southern NM.

Grouse, squirrel, and turkey (archery) starts 1 September. You won't find any pigs in Carson. There are bunnies but populations are larger down low in brushy areas.

You should consider fly fishing while hiking in Carson. Could give you a better idea with a more specific areas (Carson NF is large, disconnected, and ecologically diverse).
