Mule Deer - Pressure or Migration?

I was in a unit for early archery/elk last season that was pretty stacked up with mule deer, but almost entirely does. I was able to make it back in mid-December, and saw several very nice bucks. One was a real beast.

I'm wondering if the bucks most likely showed up due to pressure or migration? However, I do heavily account for luck/coincidence as well. Just scheming for the upcoming season. Any theories are appreciated. Thanks - GWB

Sounds like maybe the second rut, bucks looking for unbred doe. Hard to say unless we know how the land lays, public to private, mountains, plains ,any ag land?

Sorry about leaving out those details.....

Steep canyons with a good bit of rocks. Peaks up to 9k ft. Mid-sized alfalfa fields and pockets of private land anywhere in the 200-1,500 ballpark. About 85% public/BLM/NF by my guestimates.
