Utah's public land stance vs Outdoor Retailer Show

What will be the next religion is she going to try get the state to pay for its indoctrination?

Having her political teeth kicked in over State Transfer, the new marketing scheme is "Federalism." Don't suppose she is using her Senate position to promote the Utah American Land Council agenda. And people wonder why Montana Legislature is such a circus show at times. Pretty much to be expected with so many of these screwballs and wingnuts being promoted in primaries by the out-of-state interests with all the money, and then the bought-and-paid-for leadership of the Republican Party appoints folks like her to Chair Committees and be on their Legislative Leadership team.

Idgits!
As a great statesman, I can't remember who once said, "You Can't Make This Shit Up!"

These people are both stupid and scary. Don't know how this will all shake out but in the end but I gotta believe good will triumph over evil, correct?

We will see. But in the meantime - have this on my office wall......

“One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am - a reluctant enthusiast....a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.”

Edward Abbey

For those of you that know who Ray Troll is, the Ray Troll store has resurrected the classic "Don't let the bastards grind you down" t-shirt. I'm ordering one today:).

Anyone else notice this tidbit down in the "other money earmarked for" section?

An additional $500,000 for a lawsuit challenging federal steps to protect the greater sage grouse.

Looks like the Big Game Forever slush fund is intact for another year.

According to dukes_daddy, something else will take the OR place anyway.

If that's true, wondering why the State of Utah is trying to bribe them into staying???

The corruption in Utah is really something to witness...make a dumb move then try to fix it with money.

If it were any other State but Utah, I'd say it was unbelievable.

They were given $2,000,000 by Mike Noel (the Land Grab Czar) to lobby against... "endangered species, national monuments and other items identified by the state."

Anybody think those "other items identified by the state" are related to the land grab?

Incentive not bribe. State budget approved total of $21M for tourism promotion so what's another $1M.

Town hall meeting Saturday and I'm gonna pitch Utah and Colorado split Wyoming; so jointly we can help fix your budgetary problems and help diversify your economy beyond carbon, cows, cars (visitors). Laramie would be in the Colorado side and we'd take continental divide west. Bonus all Colorado and Utah folk would have resident rights to new hunting and fishing opportunities.

Puerto Rico becomes a state so we don't have to change the flag and JC could live in a socialist paradise.

The state of Deseret will happen!

Incentive is what you use to attract business.

Bribe is what you offer them to stay.

Not surprised the lines get blurry in Utah.

As to Wyoming, we're doing all right...2 billion in rainy day fund, wwnrt, Hathaway scholarships, etc. etc. etc.

Oh, and we get 3 elk tags a year, 6 pronghorn tags, 6 deer, 2 lions, bear, 6 turkeys a year...and lots of places to enjoy all that without bumping into 3 million people.

I know how badly you wished you lived in Wyoming...not many have the luxury, its good being me. I realize how lucky I am living in a state with less than 600K people, every time I'm forced to travel to Utah.

Just think of all those new tags SFW can get their hands on and sell to their buddies! Not to mention all the other hunters they can disenfranchise while they wait in line for the leftovers. Hooray Utah!

See a well managed state budgets for contingencies. Looks like the governor asked for $1M which had been removed to be restored; nothing more than putting resources in place if OR did want to revisit their decision. Our progressive Salt Lake Tribune spun the headline.

Budget writers earlier this month had removed an annual $1 million subsidy for the show after the industry group announced it was pulling out of Salt Lake City in protest over Utah officials pushing to rescind the new Bears Ears National Monument.

Hughes said the office of Gov. Gary Herbert asked that the money be added back in to the final budget bill that divides up the last-available money for the year.

I am envious of WY outdoor opportunities. A trailer on Front St in Evanston is on the possible retirement places list. Twenty acres in Texas with a Longhorn named Willie Nelson is also a strong option.

Twenty acres in Texas would surpass the piddlin' dough you girls are pissin' and moanin' about. Mind your manners and keep your quixotic pillow fights amongst yall'selves.

I'm not even necesarilly against this proposal in my link about the Sonoran Monument, and I'm definitely not against Bears Ears (also don't know enough to know if I support it) but i do see a bit of perspective of people that are opposed to large monument creation. Reading the rare, well thought out comments by a few locals definitely gives me more respect for those who care for conservation, but not for monuments.

http://wilderness.org/blog/will-bad-target-shooting-policy-literally-leave-monument-crosshairs

First, this monument put a stop to water catchment maintenance, which is very bad for the desert bighorns in 39E, and now target shooting may be stopped. Like I said, I personally don't care if there's target shooting in the monument.
I don't live there( in-laws do though) and I know how much other public land there is to shoot on in the desert, but if you were from Gila Bend, and this was your backyard where you used to enjoy 'mulitple use' recreation, you may be feeling a little cheated, with the attitude that some Utahns have- that elitist outsiders are coming there to 'help' them.

Love it! The OR shows will be a huge lift for the existing CO outdoor recreation industry, and will bring beau coup new business to the state. Good job, Gov. Hickenlooper, you landed a lunker. Witness the economic power of state policy that embraces public lands. Choke on it, UT.

The OR shows will be better off in a State that values public lands...they should have left Utah sooner.
