Bozeman Representative Jon Knokey (R) wrote an LTE the other day asking for us to "reach out with any visions, thoughts, or ideas:[email protected]."

Rep. Knokey beat Christopher Pope by 56 votes. Pope was a "sure thing" when it came to wildlife issues. Knokey has great potential to be an ally, but is untested and the right type of hunters need to get his attentions or MOGA, etc will cozy up to him.

I spoke with Knokey on behalf of MSA shortly after he was elected. He is a hunter and fisherman. He doesn't support the transfer of lands to the states. He even wrote a book on Teddy Roosevelt. He says he is very interested in advocating for us. One big problem though: he is a typical hunter/fisherman that doesn't know how the politics affects our hunting. He has a steep learning curve to come up to speed on Habitat Montana, how Block Management works, North American Model, etc.

So he is asking for your input. If you are in his district HD 65, or even if you are not, tell him restoring Habitat Montana's ability to buy land is of utmost importance. Tell him to shun anything that would encourage the privatizing of our wildlife.

I'm sure other things will be very important this session. Ideas?

Had a good conversation with him today. Seems to be willing to listen and learn. It is worth reaching out to him and encourage him to be active and engaged on these issues.
