I was able to locate one of the public land unicorns again and convince him to come home with me.

This area gets hit pretty well, but luckily this little piggy couldn't make his mind up where to go and I was able to get into position to make a shot.

I swear every year I find a way to remind myself why I hate dragging anything anymore, and this was it. My buddy gave me a hand and we drug it a mile or so... So stupid.

I have since almost gotten on public pigs once, man they are hard to find. Also, apparently, shots to the ear lead to short blood trails...

Nice tasty looking pig Bearclaw!
Hear ya on those drags, but you do slide easy on dry CA grass, lol.
Do miss CA pigs. And they were getting tough on public when I was there.
I remember the unlimited $1 for 4 pig tag days, and being paid $20 a pig bounty from SLO/Mont. county barley farmers back in the day.

Wow, looks like a huge hog. Congrats, but ever try to bone the animal out? How about quartering him and packing the meat out that way? If the ground was flat, you can also us carts with wheels if allowed. Just trying to give you ideas on how to save yourself some painful dragging.

I do most of my hunts via backpack hunting and always bone or quarter, but only a mile sounded easy over the dry grass with a buddy. It was faster than braking it down in the field as we could get him to a tree and just put directly in the truck, but sucked while we did it.

Good job Zeke.. I really miss those little monsters.

Nice looking hog man!, how close were you able to get before you shot?

I think I was somewhere around 200yds but really hard to tell with how steep it was, and how fast it all went down. I missed the big group and this guy was the loner bringing up the rear, so I ran full speed to get an open shot and sent it... 150-200 would be my guess.

Congrats on a Fatty! It's funny for me to hear about guys that have low density pig property. Here in FL that biggest problem is finding where they are today, but once you do you can find them pretty easily all over. I.E. are they in the wet areas or hanging under the cabbage palms, or hitting wallows.

nice shot
