Grip and Grin Pictures I don't really care for.....

Common sense seems to fail some folks. I am the first to admit that I am not the best photographer. However, if you take a little time and use a little common sense when taking your photos, you will appreciate it later.

You put days and days of effort into a hunt. You might as well puy a few minutes into taking a well composed photo to commemorate your success

I think there is some context too. I mean, if it's just a photo to share with friends and family. That's one thing. If it's getting published and posted to represent hunters to the larger public, that's a higher standard, IMO.

Who can break the most rules in one example?

Somewhere Ben has a picture of a horrific pile of does.

Personally my mother hates hero shots or really anything that celebrates the death of an animal, especially head mounts. My wife didn't know this and for a Christmas gift she put together a collage of family and baby pictures arranged in a circle around a big centerpiece photo of her and our daughter admiring me and the buck I was holding. My pants are covered in smeared handprints of blood all the way to my thighs. My mother must have been horrified, but she has never said anything. However, last time I visited I noticed it wasn't on the wall with all the other ones.

I think we've all taken pictures we regret, or ones that with just a little setup could have been great. I know I have some terrible ones.

The ones that I don't care for are the "set-up" pictures with the hunter doing something out of context for the moment, but taking a picture just to take a picture to prove? that you did it, for example praying, or shaking hands with another hunter, or... making out with a dead animal, or giving one a hug...

The sheep picture is by far the weirdest I've ever seen, and I saw 3 others last year, haven't seen any others this year. To each his own, but the hugging picture is flat out weird too, but many people defend it and think its the coolest thing ever. I'm convinced that Kuiu is required clothing for wierdos.

Broke a couple rules, but the bow isn't in the shot. ;-)

Not a bad topic and good review before the next time.

A few more great examples. Staring intently into a dead animals eyes is the latest fad the last few years. It looks best when you grab them by the chin with one hand and give them a hard stare.

If he didn't shoot it the damn thing would have eaten him! We took this as a joke for one of our buddies who long arms EVERYTHING!

Uh, you may think you are hot sh*t for catching me, but look what I'm doing to your waders.

I fully understand your signature line now Bambistew. That is some weeeiird stuff right there

This one cracked me up...... First, the serious "long arm", where he stands 516 yards away from the elk...

Mossback Long Distance.jpg

And then the caption of the photo.....

Hunter ____________ _____________ from Montana made a 516 yard shot from his 338RUM on this 347" bull. Brought his father and son to fulfill his first ever guided hunt. Spotters C_____________, J_____________, T_____________ and T_____________ .@altrarunning #zerolimits #swarovski #kuiu #phoneskope #darkenergytech #hunting #elk #elkhunting #mossbackoutfitters

(Love the bragging on the shot distance..... and then all the cool hashtags.....)

Here we go with the gun pointing at the lucky hunter's head....
