Default Rally for Public Lands - Montana

    What: Rally for Public Lands
    When: February 16th, High Noon
Where: Montana State Capitol. Second Floor Rotunda
Who: Montana Wildlife Federation, Montana Wilderness Association, Montana Chapter of the Nature Conservancy
Why: The Transfer of Public Lands is a hot button issue this legislative session. Powerful out of state interests are wooing our legislators to pursue a dangerous and economically disastrous path that would lead to excessive litigation and ultimately, if successful – less access and more taxes for Montanans. That’s why we’re jumping back on the bus and heading to Helena to fight back and make sure that the Legislature understands loud and clear that our public lands are not a toy for politicians and we don't tolerate their attempts to skin us from our own land.

The Rally be at high noon, on February 16th, 2015 in the Capitol Rotunda on the second floor. We are still lining up guest speakers but we do have a commitment from Governor Bullock at this time.

Buses are available for citizens who wish to take advantage of them. Please RSVP by calling the Bus Coordinator associated with the town from which you will depart:

    Me too.

Bring your war paint. There are between 25-50 bill draft requests on public land issues alone.

This petition went live yesterday and we're already over 450 signatures.

I see a ton of Hunt Talkers on there. Please consider sharing with your own social media circles and email chains, etc. We need to get this thing loaded up with as many montanans as possible:

We'll have a couple more announcements on speakers, buses, etc by next week. It should be a lot of fun!

Just had to bump this...I plan on going. I skipped elk hunting for the last one and I'll skip ice fishing for this one.

Forgot to mention that BigFin himself is the keynote speaker

    Awesome!

If you are going to ride a bus, please RSVP on this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1jsT...VRSuM/viewform

It will help us ensure that there is enough food for folks who show up, and enough seats on the busses.

Gov. Bullock said tonight in his Montana State of the State address that he will veto any legislation transferring federal lands to the State of Montana. The Governor also vowed to preserve public access to public lands.

I think the best part of the speech was watching Debby Barrett try to stop Governor Bullock's heart using only her mind as he spoke about access and public lands.

Indeed, the Dragon Lady appeared to levitate from her chair during certain parts of the speech.

We are encouraging everyone to wear speedos and yoga pants.

Especially if you are hairy and fat.

Monday, let them hear you roar. It's turning ugly up at the Capitol. We need to send a loud message. Several of the buses are full but we are looking for car pools. If you want offer to car pool, or need a ride, shoot me an IM.

Current forecast is between 400-500 people. Sandwiches will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

This is what American Lands Council is circulating about the Rally

    CALLING ALL MONTANANS!

We need your help with a “Keep Public Lands Public” rally planned at the State Capitol Monday Feb 16. If you can’t attend please spread the word and encourage others to do so. If you or any of your friends can attend, please check in with the American Lands Council (the real advocates of better public land management) at the 3rd floor fan window between 11am and 11:30am. We will provide you with the materials and instructions you need to make a positive impact with legislators AND during a curious noon hour event being staged in the Capitol rotunda that day by Montana Wildlife Federation, Audubon, Wilderness Association, and Back Country Hunters and Anglers with special guest speaker Governor Bullock.

What’s curious about these groups and their event, and why is it important we attend? These very groups that are hosting the “Keep Public Lands Public” rally just testified, on the record, AGAINST SB 215– an act prohibiting the state of Montana from selling any public lands that may be transferred from the federal government to the State in the future (attached). That’s right – they openly OPPOSED the bill which would keep public lands public! And so did the Governor’s director of state lands!!!

Why? For these anti-access groups it’s never been about keeping public lands public at all. It’s about deceptively preying on unsuspecting sportsmen and other Montanans to further their secret agenda of locking us out while claiming to advocate for public access. The truth about pseudo “sportsmen” and “wildlife” groups like these can be found at www.greendecoys.org. Check it out, spread the word, and come lend a hand Feb 16 to help promote GENUINE efforts to improve public land management through local control for better public access, better environmental health, and better economic productivity!

And finally, please contact Montana legislators at http://leg.mt.gov/css/Sessions/64th/legwebmessage.asp and ask the Senate Natural Resources Committee to support SB 215 to truly keep public lands open to the public in the event the federal government transfers land to the State.

Hope to see you in Helena at 11am Monday Feb 16!
