Sleeping bag liner?

Like Wytex I started using a blanket and sleeping bag combo as well. I have a 35 degree sleeping bag that I use under a Kifaru Woobie. Turns out just a 35 degree bag is not enough for a Sept elk hunt at 10,000' in Colorado... 6 nights of waiting for morning to come.
 
Well, after further review, I may skip the liner all together. A friend of a friend pointed out to me that there are other ways of coping through a cold nights sleep than adding the bulk and weight of a liner to your kit. Without adding anything, really.

He's suggested going to sleep with your nalgene full of boiling hot water, wrapped in any extra clothes you might have with, between your knees. If the temperature warrants it, of course. He says it also expedites the drying of any wet clothes you might have stuffed down there, which is a trick I'm already familiar with via Boundary Waters trips.
