My Florida Gator Hunt

I know I'm way late to this article but I wanted to chime in. As a Florida resident who's been alligator hunting the basis of this article has some real flaws. in Fl using a firearm on an alligator is illegal as hell. http://myfwc.com/media/1531908/alligator-rules-booklet.pdf. how ever it is performed on private land managed as an alligator farm. These alligators have been trapped by nusense alligator trappers. They were hired by fwc to remove the problem alligator and dispatch them. They are then thrown into private lakes or ponds ware unsuspecting hunters pay to go alligator hunting and shoot one of these animals. I'm sure they wouldn't qualify for Boone and crocket or sci because it's nothing more than shooting them in a large pen exactly like deer farming. Now I'm not saying that fairchase was misleading he probably didn't know, being an out of state resident but here in fl alligator hunting is done with a spear, bow, or rod and real and is at night. I get checked twice every night by fwc looking at tags and checking for rifles in the boat. After the alligator is hand lined to the boat it is killed by bangstick. But I just want to reiterate to anyone wanting to come to fl that it is highly illegal to shoot one while hunting in the meaning of fair chase.

Sounds like a great trip. In Mississippi, you are allowed to shoot them with a rifle on private land. On public land, you must first hook them, get them to the side of the boat, and kill.

For those looking to keep cost down, apply for Mississippi public land hunt. Don't worry about a boat or equipment. Once you draw, it is easy to find a group with the equipment who will take you. They are glad to do this, since many of them didn't draw a tag.
