  • Hey fella, I see you've hunted unit 49 before. I've hunted unit 45 a few times, unsuccessfully for mule deer, but that's because I didn't find the right one. well this year I decided to move a bit North and try out new territory. I drew an Archery tag for unit 49 Mule deer. Any insight on where to start? its a 16 hour drive for me and I've got 7 days to hunt.

Hi - I don't know if I can be of my help to you, I hunted elk/rifle along the rio chiquito. Mulies I saw were in thickets roadside by water or off a logging road. Get in away from roads and work logging roads-The farther the better. It can be really thick and brushy but there are open spaces and burn spaces that might work for an archery shot. Lots of road/ATV hunters. Good luck!

Thank you so much. I was planning to drive around and get a good lay of the land for a day or two and then take off on foot the area that i find best suited to hopefully hold a big buck. I have 10 days to hunt i can add a day or two more if i need to but hopefully i wont need to.
