Fermentana presents:
2nd Annual Tales from the Backcountry: Celebrating Our Public Lands
A live storytelling pint night sharing tales of hunting and angling on our public lands
Wednesday, March 1st, 2017
Doors at 6PM. Event at 7PM.
at the Emerson Center for Arts and Culture

Come for the beer, stay for the stories!

Storytelling is an act ingrained in our human make-up. This compulsive desire to tell stories transcends through to our hunting and angling experiences. Whether its chasing a trophy bull elk, harvesting your first upland bird, encountering a bear on the hunt, or landing the trout of a lifetime, these memories live on in our stories as we share them with family and friends.

For many of us in Montana and across the West, public lands serve as center stage for these outdoors experiences. Given the increasing threat public lands face, it is important, more now than ever, we share these stories, our public lands stories.

Join the Montana Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers and special guest speakers and outdoors professionals, Jason Matzinger, Ryan Callaghan, Land Tawney, Rachel VandeVoort, Sarah Keller, and Elliott Woods, for a live storytelling pint night March 1st, 2017 in the Ballroom of the Emerson Center for Arts & Culture in Bozeman, Montana. The speakers will share stories of their backcountry hunting and fishing adventures on public lands.

Beer from MAP Brewing will be on tap for the event. And similar to last year, attendees will have the opportunity to win some new gear in a giveaway of BHA swag, as well as some awesome items donated by sponsor outdoors companies like Extreme Performance Archery, Schnees, Kimber, and more.

This is an event that is sure to excite and inspire you to go out and create your own public lands adventure stories in the hunting and fishing seasons to come!

About the speakers for the event:

Jason Matzinger has spent his life hunting, guiding, and filming the best of Montana. Following his passion for the outdoors, Jason has traveled the globe into some of the most highly sought after hunting locales. Over his outdoors film career, Jason has been nominated for awards such as "Best New Series," "Host of the Year," and "Best Big Game" in the Sportsman Choice Award. He is currently the filmmaker behind the series "Into High Country" now going into it' seventh season on the Sportsman Channel. He is also the creator of RMEF's #PROJECTELK film series. http://intohighcountry.com/

Ryan Callaghan grew up in Montana where he became an avid outdoorsman. In his early years he worked variously as a carpenter, bartender, student and hunting, fishing and rafting guide. Ryan gave up this seasonal lifestyle in 2011 to become the first full-time employee of the then start-up hunting apparel company, First Lite. Working with founders Kenton Carruth and Scott Robinson, he firmly established conservation and hunting ethics in the core of company's business philosophy. In Ryan's current position as the director of public relations, he coordinates with wildlife and public lands advocacy groups and is constantly working to move the entire hunting industry towards a stronger conservation ethic. http://www.firstlite.com/

Land Tawney is a 5th generation Montanan who has spent his professional career building, energizing and activating hunters and anglers to carry on our rich outdoor legacy. Land lives in Missoula and serves as Executive Director of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers.

Rachel VandeVoort, a Montana girl and mother of two, is Trade Relations Manager for Kimber MFG. Though her formal education really landed her the title of overeducated fly fisherman, she currently spends her days talking with folks about, or hunting with and carrying, great guns.

Sarah Keller is a Bozeman-based freelance journalist focusing on today's most pressing stories about conservation and science. She has written for High Country News, Smithsonian.com, bioGraphic, and many others. When not writing she spends her time hunting, biking, and skiing on public land.

Elliott Woods is an award-winning international journalist focusing on intersections between human conflict and environmental crisis. He is the founder of Mission: Montana, a multimedia project devoted to conservation and public access issues, and a Mystery Ranch Backpacks ambassador. His work appears frequently in Outside Magazine.

Damn wish I could have made it over the hill to this. Unfortunately the recently acquired wife was having troubles with her name change so we had to make a trip to Helena from Butte for the day.
