You are absolutely correct about the deer opportunities in eastern Montana. Myself, I couldn't call it hunting, culling does comes to mind though. I've had an (A) tag for any sex any species and also had a (B) tag for whitetail does. In fact I had 5 or 6 that I purchased over the counter.
Yes lots of deer everywhere, but after I shot the second one it ceased to be fun at all. There is no sport in getting rid of does for a farmer who wanted them out of his pastures, but no permission to take a buck,(bucks are for the family). That's his right of course, but I told him thanks but no thanks. He can clear them out by himself. I filled my tags on public land. Got lots of meat but I could have bought a hind quarter and done as well. It was the kind of experience that gives experience a bad name. Anyone who wants this type of shooting is welcome to it. I know there is a reason for it, but its not for me. GJ
