I got sent this brochure from Americans For Prosperity. Most of you know who is funding AFP. If not, here you go - http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Americans_for_Prosperity

This second paragraph of the brochure is another one of those documents that calls for divestiture of Federal lands. Not State Transfer, rather disposal. Same as Mountain State Legal Foundation called for in this rant by their CEO.

Today, federal agencies like the Bureau of Land Management and Forest
own 635-640 million acres of the United States' 2.27 billion acres. That's
an incredible 28% of the country’s landmass, with western states hit the
hardest. Obviously, federal agencies need sufficient land to exercise their
constitutional functions, like military bases for national security and
interstate highways for commerce. However, the vast majority of this land
is not used for such purposes, but rather sits idle with little access given to
American citizens. Washington’s hoarding of inactive federal lands is legally
questionable and economically destructive, necessitating these lands to be
speedily transferred to their rightful owners, We the People.

Last I checked, "We the People" do own these Federal lands. This is a classic example of their different view of "We." I suspect they have a more possessive and exclusive use of the term "We."

Anyone thinking this land transfer, land sale, whatever you want to call it, is being funded by local bake sales at the community center might wake up one day to find their public lands sold. The State Transfer idea is mostly a well paid and highly orchestrated marketing plan to convince the masses that everything is wrong with Federal lands. The bigger play is to get Congress to dispose of these lands, either in part of in whole, by sale or transfer, and using the marketing campaign of State Transfer to lower the resistance when some in Congress start using these lands as currency for repaying political debts.

When you funnel as much money into the political system as AFP and their backers, you end up with a lot of politicians owing you (and you owning them). AFP is probably operating in your state under many different aliases, on many different issues, for/against many different candidates.

Hope you all had a great Independence Day.

Not surprised. Unfortunately these groups count on people voting based on emotion rather than logic. While the players have changed, the battle for our public lands is the same one we've been fighting since their inception.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to talk to your neighbors, friends and relatives and educate them about the differences between candidates.

What about the legality of the entire transfer idea? I seem to recall not too long ago when Utah decided to dedicate funds to research the legality of a transfer it was deemed by many to be wasted money. Has that thought gone by the wayside? Or is there just too much uncertainty?

All know that a lawsuit to force transfer is a dead end legal argument. The end goal is to get Congress to do it of their own decision, thus no legal challenges.
