Upgrading scope, upgrade bases/rings too?

Okay, I'm pretty set on upgrading one of my scopes to a Leupold VX-3. Question is, should I also upgrade bases and rings as well? I'm unsure if it makes a difference. Standard Warne bases/rings are currently on this rifle.

The scope will go on my Browning A-bolt, 325 wsm.

Thanks and I look forward to your opinions.

If the Warne were ok before then stick with them, but i am not a great fan of Warne, i do like Leupold mounts, i use them on my X-Bolt.
Cheers

Your rings have the potential to be your weakest link, so I would make sure you have a quality set. If you currently have Warne Maximas you are probably good. If not I would look at the Leupold Dovetails, Warne Maximas, or Talleys.

Selkirk,
are you by chance a firearm safety instructor? Leupold offers tremendous discounts to those of us who are.

I have been slowly switching to all talley lightweights also. I do have some leupold mounts and rings left but with the talley the base and bottom ring is one solid peice and one less connection point.

Not to detract from the OP's question but how many of you lap your rings? No matter the brand?

Would this be a good step for the OP?
