What is everyone's opinion on a 40 vs. 50mm scope? Obviously a 50mm will let in more light which will be better for low light conditions but im wondering if it's worth it for the extra price. Also, I'm assuming I would need bigger rings? Does it make much difference as far as shooting it since it is sitting up a little higher off the barrel? I'm looking at a Leupold vx3 CDS 4.5x14. Thanks guys.

I've always shot 40's and thought they were just fine, mostly Burris and Leupold. 50 in a lower end scope is not going to do anything for you that 40 will do in nicer glass... I've never been in a low light situation where I needed more than my 40's offered. Its usually well after shooting hours when my 40 doesn't give me way more light than I need.
The scope you are looking at would be awesome...simply put...in 40 or 50.
Its not going to effect much as far as needing to have higher mounts.

I have never had a problem with 40's. In fact, my VX3 CDS 4.5-14x40 should be here tomorrow.

I shoot both but prefer my 50 for sure........just helps at that last twinkle of shooting light

which one you getting MM? trying to get one from him, but he doesn't have the one I want in silver. looking to put one on top of this.

If your rifle has a standard stock I prefer the lower mounting height of a 40mm, with that VX-3 you're going to be fine either way.
