S. Chimneas unit hunt

I have drawn a special hunt permit for December 10th in the South Chimneas unit for dove, quail, pig and rabbit. The permit is good for 2 hunters. I am looking for someone to share the tag with. If you are interested let me know and hopefully we can get together before the hunt gets here. It is a 1 day hunt from 0630- 1700 hrs.

The hunt is this coming Sat. and I still have an available permit. The Chimineas unit is located approx. 45 miles west of Santa Maria off hwy 166. I would really like to be able to share the permit with someone.

Well, it was a nice day for a hike, even armed hiking. The day started out promising as the unit opened at 7am with only 10 hunters on about 30,000 acres. It was a crisp 25 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. But the birds were just not cooperative. A few of the guys did have dogs but the birds were just not there. I finished the hunt about 3pm with 2 chukar hit and lost. I spent 45 minutes looking through the surrounding vegetation for the birds and never found them. Oh well. I did not see even 1 quail the entire day and the majority of hunters reported the same. I did jump 2 does and a buck, of course, why not. I didnt even get a shot at a buck during the season, so why not have a nice one jump out of some heavy cover and then stop, turn, stand a watch me from less than 100 yds. Guess that's why it's called hunting.
