An interesting update to the often tried, often failed movie version. It's a lot darker and less schticky than the last go-around with Michael Keaton...I mean, Val Kilmer...I mean, George Clooney. 
They tried to give reasonably plausible explanations of the various Bat-gadgets and the origins of the whole Bat-theme instead of just tossing them in there. I was still a little disappointed by Bruce Wayne's "I won't be an executioner" bit...I keep hoping that someday they'll go back to the old Batman that would just as soon drop you on your head from a 40-story building as look at you. Christian Bale did an OK job. All in all, I'll go 3 spikes.
