    Should rifle elk be limited?

As a lifetime CO resident I've always hunted limited to avoid the crowds so my initial answer is yes, but the glaring issue is the revenue that would be lost unless the prices are increased. That being said I do like being able to hunt any unit designated OTC. If gone to caps for residents do...

NM Unit 51 December Muzzleloader - what to expect?

Hey HTers I am a newbie Hunt Talker here and so far have appreciated everything this community is about. I was hoping maybe someone has had this either sex, early December tag before and would be willing to share their experience. I live in southern Colorado so the unit is about three hours...

    Possible NM new state record

I wouldn't even have wall space for that.

New Mexico unit 51 setting my goal too high?

I will check those options out. Thanks for the tip, I ran across some EPLUS stuff earlier but didn't take the time to read far enough to see that some are accessible to public draw hunters. I'll have to read more on the process of getting access. The sled idea has certainly crossed my mind...

    New Mexico trifecta dream season

Good luck on the hunt(s)! I am reviving a muzzleloader (TC Omega) given to me by my father's friend. It hadn't been cleaned since he hung it up after his 6x6 10 years ago! You tips are helpful. I also picked up the Williams Precision sight for a NM December elk hunt. Looking forward to the report!

New Mexico unit 51 setting my goal too high?

Thanks Ben! As if thinking about hunting didn't already take up my much of my down time, now I have thousands of people to chat to about it. It's actually an either sex tag and a "standard" tag. This year is the first for open sights only on muzzleloaders in NM so it will be interesting to see...

What is your single top hunting season goal this year? I expect updates damn it.

I'll also pick up a OTC 2nd season bull for Colorado and will get to hunt from home in Durango, CO which I haven't been able to do before. Will squeeze in a few days before going to pick up a yellow lab pup! On that note, if anyone is looking for a pup (all yellow) this breeder has a few more...

What is your single top hunting season goal this year? I expect updates damn it.

I drew a NM late season (first week Dec) elk muzzleloader tag for Unit 51 and would love to fill that this year. I always say I'd like to hold out for a bull, but haven't gotten an elk since 2018 so if a cow is in open sights range...probably should take the meat...

What is your single top hunting season goal this year? I expect updates damn it.

Ha your decoy reminds me of one that my buddy made for pronghorn in eastern CO a few years ago...As you can see the terrain is featureless, but there are cows and drainage ditches. It worked as a raft to cross a small creek and then as our "blind." The group of antelope we hiked for two hours to...

New Mexico unit 51 setting my goal too high?

I just got back from scouting the northern and central areas of 51A this past weekend. I have a December muzzleloader tag for this year and wanted to see the country I've been e-scouting. I drove from Hopewell south to Mogote Peak and then east and south out of the unit to El Rito. It was about...
