    Smith and Rogue: Sleeping bag

Picked up the Smith and Rogue 50/50 4S (4season) sleeping bag for a few hunts this fall. Just want to say it worked great and a good option especially at that price point and still compressed down nice. I wasn't backpacking in anywhere, but still compresses well. (Less than $300) Its a good...

    Lessons learned: hunting partners

Glad you were still able to find a buck to get this year! It definitely is rewarding getting a deer. Also helping others is great! I have been on quite a few packouts this year so far. Always great! Yeah, those that don't take initiative early in the preparation might be a flag that the hunt...

    Lessons learned: hunting partners

Yes, the North Idaho jungle and creeping through the woods is still effective. I like the moving aspect, never know what is over the next ridgeline/creek. Utilized that this year archery elk and had cow elk within 20 yards twice this year, no bull was around. Its the going to where the elk are...

    Lessons learned: hunting partners

That is definitely true! I picked up my own Kodiak Canvas this year after spending last year mule deer hunting in my buddies. The later seasons where my dad would come out, its way easier to handle than a wall tent.

Yep idaho for myself this past year. My dad, not so much. Just need to look more at tag allocation if there's units here.

    Lessons learned: hunting partners

Definitely enjoy only a few, but with similar hunt styles. Part of the hunt is getting my dad out there, part may be nostalgia. Idaho non resident draw is tough. But a saying I have that I should have listened to is "nostalgia hinders progress" Either way, definitely learned items and want to...

    Lessons learned: hunting partners

The following is somewhat of a expression of frustration but there are reminders for all in hunting partners and expectations. Yes its long, but it was a frustrating week. I almost ended up leaving partway through as it how it was turning out, it wasn't worth my time, but my dad was with, so...

    How steep is too steep?

North Idaho is pretty steep here. Someone mentioned understanding the items you can grab onto, another thing to worry on that steep stuff is how wet is the brush and branches. More than I can count I have slid on a branch or huckleberry brush walking down a steep slope in the morning. The...

    My General Tag

Dude epic story so far. Thanks for sharing your thoughts/emotions through this. Take this as a reference point too and use it as a moment in the future to remind yourself of. Solo hunting is a bit different, and having this experience now can definitely help in the future. Always working on it...

    Pulling cams today

At least they gave you the SD card. They should have an SD card reader and just copy over the photos to their phone and leave your camera in place. Maybe give them the hot tip on the SD card reader lol

    The chase was on…

Oh man! Hope it learned! And at least confronting it was your choice. When I was in duluth, mn, my apartment door was one of those that was always locked when going to the exterior of the building. Right when I stepped through and looked down the 3 concrete steps, there was a skunk sitting...

    Hunting gaiters

Also, one issue I had when hunting or just hiking in more of a hiking boot type of boot, was getting grasses, branches, sticks, etc. that would fall down into my boot/socks or between my ankle and the tongue of the boot. So even if it is not wet out, sometimes i still throw the gaiters on when...

    Hunting gaiters

I'll put my vote in for the red fox ones as well. Reasonably priced, and pretty good quality. Only thing that happened to me, was on the metal buckle that goes through the bottom loop hole, that bent, tried bending it back, but after a while it just broke off. So i cut the strap that goes around...

When we went the first week of sept, they weren't really bugling, and were still in the seclusion bedroom areas. If you see a spot with lots of rubs, there could be one near by still if they are not bugling. Raking trees really brought them in, so dont be afraid to do some blind calling setups...

Hey! Hope this isn't too late to get to you, but yes. We tried some spots around the unit, so don't be afraid to spend 4 hours traveling to a new area; Part way through the week we moved from one side completely to the other. i noticed on a comment you mentioned the Canjilon lakes area. We did...
