Unfortunately, the reality of it is most trail runners don't care about places like the Crazies. As with most other outdoor pursuits, 90% of them flock to the "iconic" destinations that are under no threat from the land transfer movement, and pay little attention to the lesser known lands out...
Even though we're not moving up there for a couple of weeks, I'm already spreading the word on how awful it is.
Is it too soon to ask you Helena folks for GPS coordinates of all your secret elk spots, or do I have to wait a few week to be a real "local"? ;)
Very nice work Buzz. Listened to this on the way into work and promptly sent out emails to Zinke and Daines and will be on the phone with their offices later today. As much as the political system frustrates me, we can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines and let others do the legwork.

Another encounter south of Livingston last week. This one ended poorly for the bear. I had planned on hunting that area this week, too.
As of this morning over 270 protesters have been arrested. Not to mention being subjected to tear gas, rubber bullets, bean bag rounds, and attack dogs. LEO response has been at the local and state level. The feds have been largely silent on the DAPL situation. It's a political grenade no one...
I'm kind of amused by this one.
"Although they’re a popular sight in the lower farmlands, the timber and sagebrush area he was hunting in appeared to be bear-free."
Gotta start watching my step in those lower farmlands.
Honestly, the guy got off easy considering his reaction to the charge.
We were on the very furthest distant ridge in your picture. On the divide between Cottonwood and Glacier Lakes. Kind of a sketchy climb and descent to get up and over, but we had a great view of both drainages from above. Saw 17 goats I believe total. Most were down around the lake, with a...
Broke mine about 12 weeks ago, and just did around 16 miles with a 40 lb. pack this weekend. Had the boot on for 4 weeks, and started walking and hitting the elliptical hard when that came off. Got clearance to start hiking at 8 weeks, and could knock out 5-6 slow miles right away, albeit with...
Best description of these hunts I've seen yet. Got into some amazing country I likely would never visit otherwise. I'll be back someday when I can dedicate the kind of time this type of hunt deserves. Good luck to everyone going after it this year.
