There's a trilogy by Ivan Doig that begins with English Creek that is some of the best writing I've ever read. Old west homesteading and love and loss type stuff. Doig's personal memoir, This House of Sky, is equally amazing.
I'm in for Bourbon and Cookies!
Quick question: can anyone tell me why some whiskeys are spelled with an "e" and some aren't? Example: Makers Mark Whisky vs. Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey.
Also: Buffalo Trace, Woodford, Elijah Craig
I have an '08 Tacoma with an extended cab (not 4 door), that has a 6 foot bed. I'm 5'10"ish, so I sleep back there quite often. It's a great truck, but I chose to get a 4 cylinder, which is pretty weak, and it also has a pretty soft rear suspension. When I'm heading out to go elk hunting (or...
I hope to make it out there on Thursday evening and look forward to getting to know you guys a little better. Anyone else bringing a mountain bike for the closed logging roads?

After 5 years of backcountry grizzly research, I might be the best person I know when it comes to hanging food...
My wife and I love going there too. She has a birthday in mid-November and we like to go there so she can soak and get a massage while I hunt Mule Deer. Not sure there's a better (developed) place for a weekend getaway.
Welcome - I came to Montana after being raised in southern California. Took me 21 years to get here but it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Good posts here. As a Montanan, I'm partial to this state (and I tried to avoid reading Bambistew's comments - because I don't want to compare MT to AK and feel small time down here). That being said, I'd be curious to hear people's opinions about actual cities and towns they recommend. It's...
I don't really have an opinion either way, but I should let you guys know that I just saw Niedermeyer (Animal House) downtown just now. He's a Missoula resident these days.
