I have about a dozen raised beds (photo from previous summer) to keep me occupied. And some fruit trees, berry patches, and herbs around the yard. Unfortunately most of it ripens during archery season and I'd rather go hunting. My wife's not really interested in it. Unless I tag out early, feel...
Funny, I was just wondering if others had this same approach. I just traded in my truck for a 2018 wrangler. Went with pretty basic so I can afford to do my own customizing. Putting some new tires on next week - nothing extreme, but passenger tires are not going to cut it. Trying to decide what...
My short answer is that I mostly just use whatever is easiest to get, but having tried almost everything here is my prognosis.
Uncured fat doesn't store very long and consequently adding it to ground meat reduces the time before it starts to change flavor in the freezer. I can use year old...
I'm going to disagree with the negativity on this thread. While I don't use a mylar bivvy as an every night combo with a crappy bag, I've used it countless times when the weather turned out worse than expected. I've had great results. I take my best bag for the weather forecast, but in a 5 day...
I use my clothes as padding around my stuff. Then on top I bought a pack of the biggest white undies I could find, rubbed them strategically in the oil spot in the garage, washed them so they're just stained and not actually foul, and I put one at the top of every compartment. If anyone ever...
Any office can look up your bear tag number, but if you're talking about the metal pelt tag, you'll find the right person to look it up by contacting headquarters.

It would help to clarify that you're asking for the metal pelt tag number, since the first thing most...
Looks like the weather and moon phase just kicked them into it. I was headed through elk country at 4:30pm yesterday. General archery unit, but just 10 miles out of the zone I bought and I come across the scene that you never see when you're hunting. Big bull chasing a probable shooter 6x6 away...
I used to hike that much, but I am so much more successful now. IMO, hiking when your quarry is also moving is counterproductive - unless you're making a move to get in position on a known target.
I don't really consider 20 miles too much hiking in a day (though I don't do it much any more)...
I got a Kimber Montana in 325wsm for a fraction of what I would have paid for the same gun in any other caliber. Recoil isn't bad at all. Accuracy is as good as anything else I own. Shot a deer at 50yds freehand and an elk at 350yds and both hit right on the money and both drt. I don't think it...
+++++ Exped. I have always slept well when camping, but then I got an Exped syncel. If I could replace the mattress on my bed with it I would. My wife tried it one night and immediately had me order one for her.
I tried a Klymit Inertia Ozone to cut down on weight, but I can sleep better on the...
I heard that the starfish were slowly crawling up the shore to lay eggs. If they don't get far enough up the beach then the eggs will simply be washed into the mouths of hungry fish... And somebody is throwing them back out to sea and forcing them to start the journey over. That sums up how I...
The new gear I've tried in the past year or two:
The recommended by me list:
Changed to lightweight rifle. I didn't realize how much my shoulders were suffering from packing heavy rifles all day. Tried a Kimber this year and I was surprised how much more comfortable I felt at the end of the day...
I put the Blackhawk Axiom stock (second link in above post) on a 7mm-08. The kids love it and it fits everybody.
If you're looking for an excuse to buy a new gun, there is a Ruger 10/22 model with sliding stock. It's called the TacStar.
