I passed on the one in the back (at 15 yards), because the big boy was watching from the pines...didn't want to get busted by him.
Ended up with neither.
Fellow Wiscosinite here.
We were bowhunting the 1st week of October. I missed a shot at this big boy.
It was a slow week hunting-wise. Very hot, full moon...I don't know. We didn't see as many deer as we normally do. Makes this miss sting a lot more.
Fisherkid1,
Wind Lake fireworks were on June 29th. I don't live on the lake, so I did not see them. From the sounds, it was a great show. Friends on the lake said they were pretty good.
We were trying to avoid MT due to the license cost.
Friends and I are still trying to decide what the...
Thanks so much for the advise, guys.
I assumed based on what my cousin told me, it was an easy tag to get. WRONG.
Will buy a preference point, but will be looking for different areas, most likely.
Thanks again.
We are planning an Elk hunt for Fall of 2020. We've (from Wisconsin) been archery Mule Deer hunting in SD for the past 8 years or so, with decent success. So we have a bit of experience in hunting "Out West".
Going to do a cow hunt, rifle. We are considering Zone 21 in Wyoming. Mostly...
Watch the series on You Tube "How I do my E-Scouting"...4 Parts. I've watched them all.
While not an expert on Western hunting by any means (only been doing it about 8 years) I've used bits and pieces of his lessons in the past, and it's worked out pretty well.
Call Game Biologists/Wardens in...
We were kicking around going in early November...as close to rifle season as possible. Better chance of hitting the rut as well. Don't think we'll do a December hunt.
We are looking at 2 separate trips. Probably the first in mid-to-late Oct/early Nov, and the 2nd trip around Thanksgiving.
We are not"Trophy Hunters"...a representative buck is good, a big buck would be a nice bonus. We want a DIY hunt, public land.
Montana looks really pricy compared to...
Yeah, I had called ND Game & Fish and got that number. I asked how many usually apply, and I was told generally between 600-700 apps...so it's about a 50/50 chance.
Don't want to drive all the way to Oregon...we're from Wisconsin.
Have just started doing our research after Christmas. Started with NE & ND due to drive time and license cost.
Wyoming and Montana were down (but not off) our list only because of the drive time and POSSIBLY altitude. We'd do...
We currently do our Mule Deer hunts in SD. We are looking to take a second trip "Out West" next year.
We are kicking around NW Nebraska, or SW ND. Read online reports, some saying each area sucks, and each area is great.
Looking for any feedback you may have.
Thanks in advance.
We are from Wisconsin, and we've hunted the Custer NF. Check out the "Dead Horse Flats" area. We usually hunt the edges of the burn areas.
In 5 years we've gotten 3 does and 3 bucks between 4 guys.
Good luck.
