Wyoming Antelope and Bird Hunting

Bird dog associations
English Cocker is not a pointing breed so they wouldn’t hunt the way the test is set up for NAVHDA. I’m a member and while the testing is for the continental pointing breeds the training days are for any kind of dog. Forest service trails
Maybe apps like MTB Project? I have it for my area and there are tons of mountain bike trails in the National Forest here that I haven’t seen on any other map systems. Most trail builders will map their routes in the back country for other riders to find.- WV Hunter

Dog Food
At some point you may want to add this as someone mentioned above. This stuff has helped with the sometimes runny or soft stools he occasionally gets on Pro Plan Sport. Our vet recommended this over switching brands and it’s helped- WV Hunter

Practice birds
Pigeons are great for introducing birds to a pup and advanced stuff like getting a started dog steady to wing, shot and fall. Frozen and freshly killed pigeons are great for retrieving as well. Once you’ve done that there isn’t much use for training birds. Just get them out there hunting. If...- WV Hunter

Local bird dog club
NAVHDA is a great resource. Doesn’t matter if it’s a pointing dog, retriever, flushing dog or versatile. They’ll be experienced people there to help you. I believe the guy from Rusted Guns Kennel in NC is heavily involved with both chapters there, Foothills and Tarhill I think.- WV Hunter

Grouse Season is Almost Here
Some north Maine woods action a couple of weeks ago with my pups. Big one is 15 months and the other 4 months. They both learned a lot with each bird contact. Day three the older one started figuring it out and I managed to hit a woodcock and grouse.- WV Hunter
