solids that will not expand or break apart.
you want full body penetration to kill a grizzly bear and that may have to break the skull or a shoulder blade first.
Sitka gear gortex - get the heavier version - and everything else will layer under that.
Get gaiters as it keeps the trash out of your boots
speaking of boots - get something good like kenetrek. i use the hardscramble hikers for all MT hunts (uninsulated as if get cold, build a fire or walk...
I have been called every year that I hunted MT. Once for deer first and then march/april for elk. they don't just ask kill numbers but ask about location, sightings of elk/deer and other wildlife. have been asked about predators too. perhaps i just had good conversationalists call me...
It is not really considered "hunting" until you pull the trigger... Was heart warming this fall to see a family headed up the mountain road (mom and 4 kids under 8 in tow, one baby in a sling) to meet a nephew that was bringing a mule deer out. She had a rifle slung over her shoulder and it...
I did self guided elk in MT 2018 and few other years in past. The bear and wolfs have decimated the elk and deer herd in some western regions. I hunted region 1 & 2 and there were very few animals taken by human hunters this season... I do plan to go back in 2019 if draw again, but will go to...
After going with guides for a few years and discovering that I am more prepared than they... I am going it alone in Montana this year. Well, not quite alone as my son (in 20's) will go along with me. I figure can't do any worse than the guided hunts on public land and the two of us buying all...
I do not believe it was ever real or endorsed by Trumps. Reason why, I have seen the real invite to the inauguration events and for our $1m donation, you get a lot less than this hunting one provided...
I am curious though... If they can't do philanthropic fund raisers - does this mean they...
I have a Sitka Bivy 45. Have only used for training trips thus far - loaded with my rain gear, day gear and 10-Liter water bladder for added weight - about 40-lbs total. It holds the weight as well as any other quality backpack - waist belt cranks down nice and snug - this is most important...
I am a little north of you in Knoxville TN area, in Chattanooga frequently too. What part of GA you in? Would love to hear what your plans are. I am relatively new to this forum so not sure how you can contact me - message via forum or if you need my direct email address?
Have been to Montana...
I have not found a set of shooting sticks than can handle the abuse I put hiking sticks through on a trip out west. I cary a full length telescoping tripod shooting sticks strapped to my pack. If I need the sticks to shoot, there will be time to get them out...
I run walleye charters out Geneva Ohio (Erie central basin), that is roughly Avon Lake (just west of Cleveland), East to the PA line (or so). PrivateerSportFishing.com
We won't even have our boats out of winter storage in March... If you want to fish March or April, I suggest going to western...
JohnCushman, please don't stop helping folks in public and don't take comments as criticism. This is the wonderful thing about forums like this - we will eventually get around to and through multiple answers and options. If your solution is not the one that someone is looking for, then perhaps...
in Montana, I don't believe you pay anything unless you are drawn. I could be wrong, but if there is a "draw fee", I have yet to see that separately as I have been drawn every year I have put in... (and it would have to be so low that I did not care or I would play the wait game too...)
