Well contrary to rumors I am still alive! Like everyone, life has been wildly busy the last few years and I have not been posting as much lately. Here is a quick Readers Digest overview:

Finished my MBA
Started a new job
Met my dream girl (first day at the new job)
Sold my house
Got married
Bought a new house

Throw in kids, a few smaller life issues, and things get hectic!

On my third date with my future wife (Kathy), I asked her what was on her "Bucket List". Her answer was to go to Alaska, stand in a stream, and catch salmon!! I thought this was a joke because no woman I have ever met says that. A few months latter I asked her if she was serious, she said she was, so I booked us a trip to Prince of Wales Island to do just that. This trip eventually turned into a honeymoon and she wouldn't have had it any other way. I am very blessed.

A few months out Kathy asked if there was anything to hunt on POW. I told her black bear and Sitka deer. She asked if I was going to hunt them and I said I hadn't planned on it, as I didn't want to turn our honeymoon into a hunting trip for me. Her response was "Why wouldn't we go hike/hunt?" With that, we started researching areas to hunt Sitka on the island and identified a few likely areas.

I completely underestimated how thick and steep POW is and what a chore it is to get to the alpine. This was easily the most physically challenging hunt I have been on. To Kathy’s credit, she was with me step for step over 12 punishing hours. When we got back to the truck at sunset she thanked me for the experience and said it was enjoyable????? I told her no one enjoys what we just did, they endure it. She is a very tough lady!!

These are the best deer pics we could muster given the conditions. These bucks had a much bigger body than I expected and are well put together. Awesome experience and epic views. Dream hunt for sure and thankful the Lord keeps giving me these incredible opportunities!!!

The rest of the fall is stacked with fun tags as well. WY antelope with my kids in a week, back to WY with Upper Deck and Grizzly for more antelope in three weeks, a ND rifle mulie tag, a ND whitetail muzzleloader tag, and archery hunting mulies during the rut. Life is good and I hope your fall is equally as blessed. Have a great day!

Numerous great "Catches" - especially the Mrs. !! :) I'm right behind you, just got engaged to a wonderful lady who loves to fish with me, taking her and my daughters to WY for goats, but won't be honeymooning on POW, and still get to do some exciting hunts. Life can't get much better!! Thank you for sharing and best wishes on the rest of your lives together on this earth!!

That is awesome. Ten years ago my wife and I also honeymooned on POW and I also shot a blacktail buck. We took our Ford Escort wagon on the car ferry from Bellingham. We had "just married" painted across the back, the locals we met, especially women couldn't believe we would honeymoon on POW.

Congrats on the marriage and the buck!

My friends always tell me "So you got one tied up to a tree". Looks like you do the same. Great buck and congrats!!!

good luck to all
the dog

pointingdogsrule,

He had already had taken a 600 yard high-speed header down the mountain after the shot and got hung up in a small bush. If I wouldn't have tied him up, he would have went at least that far again. Boning and caping him on that steep of mountainside was challenging!
