We were lucky to get a bull that nice. 3 Okies don't get much practice at moose judging.
We got a tip from a couple of elk hunters who said they had seen a big bull twice about 1 1/2 miles of easy walking from the road. We headed in and found fresh tracks in the mud. We moved as quite as possible and bumped into the bull at 30 yards. A quick shot in the shoulder put him on the ground almost instantly. I fired a quick, misplaced, and unnecessary follow up shot. And it was over. It was getting dark so we gutted him and left him overnight.
Idaho is beautiful, steep, and thick. We hunted 4 more days for deer and elk and spotted both but we couldn't close the deal on a respectable bull or buck. We also killed some grouse and Nathan (KampKook) cooked them. All and all a great hunt.
