Camping Essentials!

HI everyone. Im new to the site but have enjoyed all the help and insight i've read so far. I am trying to put together an elk hunt in MT in the near future. I have always dreamed of a hunt like this so i'm very excited. My question to you all is, What kind of gear is necessary for your camps? A list of the things you have to have.

Well, I'll give the list of items from our pack in MT elk hunt that my hunting partner and I used per person. I'm not sure if you're packing in or just pitching camp close to the truck. This was for a two week hunt, but you can sort through and have an idea. The guys on here who do this yearly may fine tune it a little more. Aw, for packing in purposes, weight in ounces has been added.

If you want a detailed food list that we used, let me know. It's detailed in calories and weight due to us wanting to make sure we consumed approx 3000 calories per day.

You left out a rifle and ammo. (or bow & arrows)

And if you take a inch or two off that roll of duct tape you can get it down from 3.64 to 3.60

I have to admit that I didn't skimp on the toilet paper as listed!

And add 1 bow and one arrow!

A pack string comes in handy too. Then you don't have to count ounces!

What kind of hunt do you want to do, and when? Backpack, horseback, truck, ATV? Time of year has a big influence as well. They all require a bit different gear.

Genesis's list would rival most sheep hunters... sans about half the cloths. He packs as much as my wife.

John, if your going to dream you need to dream big

A little late to the party but here's my packing list. I'm always worried about setting camp 100 miles from nowhere only to find I'm missing some critical piece of gear. I check off each item on the list as it goes into the truck. This list is for our drive in base camp and is pretty complete. I'll delete whatever I don't need on a particular hunt and I rarely add to it unless I get a new piece of gear or I am going to spike out.

Thanks guy for the quick feed back. Our trip we are looking at camping close to the truck. It will be the first trip that any of us have done like this, so we really don't want to get in over our heads. We know its not going to be easy and will test us mentally and physically. But our schedules allow us to have plenty of time to hunt and hopefully harvest some animals.
