A wounded grizzly bear in HD 415 near Marias Pass is cause for hunters to take extra caution while hunting and removing animals from the field.

Montana Fish and Wildlife officials along with the US Forest Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service are alerting hunters in the Marias Pass, elk and deer HD 415, that two groups of hunters were charged by a female grizzly and her two cubs on Sunday and Monday off USFS trail 133, 2 and ½ miles east of the Marias Pass. A bear was shot and wounded. Until the bear is located, FWP, the USFS and USFWS recommend avoiding this area. The wounded grizzly bear make this situation dangerous to anyone in the area.

FWP is bringing in a helicopter in an attempt to locate the bear and to assess options to reduce the danger to hunters. Hunters are reminded to carry bear spray and use extra caution when in the field or retrieving harvested animals
