wyoming elk unit 8

picked up a tag for this area this year. wondering if any one has any information on the Jelm and Red mountain areas and what I might expect there. Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me. It is much appreciated!

First shot, any elk that are on Jelm will be headed to private. Not a tag most guys will take unless they have access or connections on private...

There are elk on both Jelm and Red Mountain, there is a lot of checkerboard stuff in there as well that can be tough for access.

Usually there are more elk on both later in the season.

I think the better elk hunting in that unit is the stuff to the West of Tie Siding (mostly all private, but some state). I see elk from highway 287 between tie siding and the Colorado border just about every time I travel that road early in the morning or later in the evening.

I have no idea how the private would be to access, I suspect not real easy. May be worth your time to contact the Laramie Regional GF office.
