Trying to plan a late season general tag hunt for 2016. I'm dong some research to find areas that look appealing to me. One thing I was hoping to find is a list of recent wild fires for national forest or blm lands. Does such a thing exist? I tried to google, but didn't find much except fires that we're currently active.

InciWeb has all recent fires and maps w/intensity charts.

Some National Forest pages have .kmz's of their fire history, some don't . The info is out there, it's just a matter of finding the right person within a given agency to talk to who is willing to get it to you. With the BLM the district fuels specialist is often a good bet. With the USFS there are a lot more options (FMO, AFMO, Ecologist, etc.). There is also a large interagency fire response team that holds a lot of info.

Thanks gentlemen! That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Hoping to find some of those files so I can make some overlays with them.

Inciweb is a good way to get a good starting point for finding morrel shrooms too!

If you don't see the kml file I the gis dataset page, Send an email to the specific Forest gis person and they'll send you a fire history kml that you can open in Google. Been doing it for years.
