Cannon 15x50 IS Binoculars

My late uncle gave me his binoculars- a heavy but quality pair of cannon 15x50 image stabilizers. They worked great for him and for me but sometime during last season something happened and the stabilization no longer works and when looking through them the lens' are not aligned. I sent them in to cannon but they wanted $700 to even open them up as they were no longer under warranty. So now I have a very expensive pair of binos that aren't working properly. If I had the money to fix them I probably would but just don't have that kind of cash. Anybody have any ideas of what I can do with these? I called around to some other camera/optic shops but no one seems to want to touch them. I understand the value of quality optics and would like to find some way to use these or get something out of them. Thanks
