Bowhunted unit 48 but was unable to get it done, so heading back to try to find a spike with a rifle. Anyone have any tips or helpful info for where the elk might be this time of year?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I bumped into a good size herd in that zone last weekend. The elk seem pretty isolated in that zone right now, with the general deer season running. This herd got bumped by wolves or other hunters, not sure which, but they returned to feed in the very same brush patch the next morning like nothing ever happened. They sure knew where the safe zone seemed to be, and this was in a very heavily hunted deer spot.

Bring a bugle and don't be afraid to brush whack looking for fresh sign, as they aren't going to be standing out in the open in 43 and 48 right now.

They always seem to be on the steepest mountain in the area ;) We seen some good Bulls, but come to think of it few spikes.
