PEER LAWSUIT TACKLES NATIONAL BISON RANGE GIVE-AWAY LEGISLATION

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has not done the environmental analysis required by law before sponsoring legislation to turn the National Bison Range over to local tribes, according to a federal lawsuit filed today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). The suit aims to force FWS to ascertain potential impacts before proceeding any further with the first major surrender of a national wildlife refuge in American history.

The National Bison Range issue is not new. It's been around for a very long time, with some interesting politics on both sides. I'd not put it in the same category as Vieques, etc.

The idea of shared management and working with the tribes is not new, but the idea of removing it from the Refuge System completely is a new tack. In that scenario, the end result is no different than the other two proposals IMO.
