caldwell chonograph

Anyone use one of these chonograps ? How do you lke it?

Wondering the same thing, especially the "upside down" model.

The model I have only displays single shot data so you have to connect to an App on a phone/tablet to get SD, averge velocity, etc. I'm not sure how to feel as it will display errors pretty regularly when I try to sync my phone with it. When I'm done messing around with the errors I think it works good. I think I'd spend the money on a Chrony next time

I just bought one. I'm planning on giving it a test with my 7mm 08 reloads this coming Sunday. I'll report back next week with the results.

The Magnetospeed is highly reccomended. I have a Shooting Chrony that has worked well for me. mtmuley

Ok so I went out for the first time today with my new Caldwell Ballistic Precision Premium Kit. Here is a breakdown on how the unit worked for me. I fired 41 shots thru the chronograph. I did not have a single error reading. The phone app and interface cable worked as expected. This unit looks as if it did not go thru calibration. It was displaying in some form of mystery units per second. Here are more details from today:

Rifle - Ruger American 7mm 08, 22" stainless steel barrel
All groups were three shots using a 140 Grain Nosler Partition

Loads as follows:

Varget 41.0 gr, Avg 993.0, Std Dev 4.58
Varget 41.1 gr, Avg 989.3, Std Dev 17.9
Varget 41.2 gr, Avg 993.6, Std Dev 4.63
Varget 41.3 gr, Avg 1009.3, Std Dev 12.7
Varget 41.5 gr, Avg 1009.3, Std Dev 2.08
H 4350 46.0 gr, Avg 1005.3, Std Dev 9.07

The results look like the unit works but just not to a standard unit of measure. It looks like I have an email or phone call to make to the manufacturer. I had the setting on FPS with the above results. I moved the switch to MPS and the value dropped by approximately a third.

Here is an update on my defective Caldwell Chronograph:

Right after posting here about my first experience using the Caldwell Chronograph, I emailed Battenfeld Technologies. The following day I received an email from Battenfeld. They asked me to check the inspected by date on the unit. I replied back with the requested information that evening. The following morning I received another message from them saying that they were sending me a replacement unit and to allow 3-6 days for processing. Four days latter I received the unit. I took the unit out this weekend to give it a try. I fired 24 shots thru it and it worked perfect. No errors on any of the shots and the App worked well. I actually really like the App. It really makes it easy store data. It also has the ability to take a picture of the target and calculate the group size. Overall I am happy with the chronograph and very happy with the customer service.
