I have bear baited a couple of times. One time the bear quit coming due to a wolverine coming into my bait. Another time I had at least 3 bears hitting my bait between 1:00 and 3:30 in the morning. They were going through over 100 pounds of bait a day. My question is, how do you get them to hit during shooting hours?

I start by putting the bait out at about 4:00 am the first week, then moving it to 5:00 am the next, and then 6:00. I usually put out about twenty pounds of turkey and/or beef entrails each time.

After a few weeks of putting bait out, they know that if they keep coming around towards the end of night/beginning of morning, they get first dibs on the goodies.

It's worked ok so far. Before I did that, I went one bear for four seasons. I'm three for three since then.

I am fortunate that there are lots of beef and turkey packing plants not too far away. I can pick up a 55 gallon drum of "chum" for about twenty bucks.
